The place was re-discovered in the early twentieth century through the efforts of Sant Sohan Singh and Bhai Vir Singh, who subsequently established the present-day Gurudwara.

The term hemkund is the lake of snow, which refers to the sparkling glacial lake located close to the Gurudwara. The site is located against a backdrop of seven towering and snow-capped peaks, which only adds to its divine atmosphere.

  2. Great article! A few tips for first-time trekkers planning the Hemkund Sahib trek: start prepping your fitness at least a month in advance—it’s a steep climb, especially the last stretch. Carry a good rain jacket, waterproof shoes with strong grip, and always keep ORS or glucose handy for energy. Also, start the trek early in the morning to avoid afternoon weather changes. The altitude can be challenging, so take it slow and stay hydrated. I did this trek with Trek The Himalayas (TTH), and their guidance and support made a huge difference in making the journey safe and memorable .
