Panchgani History

Panchgani was developed by the British as a hill station in the 19th Century. They sought cool weather and views over the valleys below. To aid their comfort, the British built roads, bungalows and schools that still bear the stamp of their colonial architecture. The town also served as a summer retreat for British administrators.

Panchgani became a trendy hill station from its sleepy British colonial outpost. The chilly climate and rich soil provided the perfect conditions for the strawberry plantation, which started in the early 20s. Today, Panchgani’s strawberries have earned fame in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
